Creative freedom for this assignment pushed me to pick a fictional place (book, movie, or television show). After selecting a classic, Friends, I was able to brainstorm what icons may look like in each of the categories.
I was tasked with creating pictograms in the following categories: Locations, Characters, Organizations, and Concepts.
Fine Tuning
I was able to narrow down the final icons that I wanted to create. After refining what I wanted the united elements to look like, uniform for all pieces of the project, I could adapt that layout to each and every concept I wanted to configure.
The missing pieces of the puzzle turned out to be inside jokes from the show!

Bottom Left: The iconic orange couch from the credit montage and Central Perk
Bottom Right: The equally as iconic umbrellas from the credit montage, paired with the song “I’ll Be There For You” by The Rembrandts
Finish Line
A completed set of pictograms was complete for each of the categories. Each realm expressed different aspects of the characters, famous landmarks within the show, and popular concepts repeated throughout the decade-long series.
